Matt Tullos(We used this reading on Mother's Day as an intro to the song, "
I Hope You Dance."
1: She is glorious
2: Not because her life birthed great accomplishments and acclaim
3: her glory transcends the tide of earthbound rhythm.
1: And her face shows the lines of laughter and tears
2: She will grow old
3: and you will grow old
1: you will always be her child
3: though distance runs between us
2: And time turns resplendent like a waltz
1: and she always moves with grace
2: Some dance childless
3: living in the hope that the sounds of children will find their way across the hall
1: they weep and yet courageously they dance with expectation.
3: Others have mourned at the graves of their sons and daughters
2: Their dance reminds us of the power of God to restore and give hope.
1: Because that is what life is.
All: an amazing dance
2: even though the dance leads into dark valleys and lonely places
1: It remains a dance
3: and God has beckoned mothers
2: and mothers have beckoned sons and daughters
3: to enter into the dance.
1: the glorious dance that began one fair and gallant dawn
2: when a stone was rolled away and Mary,
3: a grieving mother turned sorrow into dancing
1: Her heart danced with unspeakable joy
2: And the music began
3: and the dance of eternal life began
1: And so the dance continues
3: The dance of motherhood
All: the dance of Life.
1: A dance that reminds us of a soon coming feast when a father welcomes his children
2: A
home with many rooms and new wine
3: We have been invited to the celebration
1: We have been invited and it is our choice
2: Shall we stand around like critics and just watch the celebration?
3: Will we lose ourselves in sorrow from the pain of life?
1: Will we walk away from this beautiful morning with old resentments?
3: or will we truly dance…
